Impressionism- Jan. 8, 2019

What is impressionism? Impressionism or impressionistic painting is by far my favourite style of art because it is right between the abstract and realism methods. See my other blogs “Art Style” and “That’s Too Good to Be True!” for more on those styles. Impressionism isn’t completely realistic. It doesn’t look exactly like the source, nor should it, as this would be considered realistic painting. It can be interpreted more easily than the abstract technique because it is less haphazard and more intentional in creating comprehensive shapes, shadows, and lines. Impressionism is a free, relaxing, and unique style of art in comparison to realism but more tight and uniform then abstract art.

Art Style- Jan. 11, 2019

That’s right art has styles! There are three main styles of art, abstract, impressionism, and realism. Most people know what abstract is...the art you would get from a preschooler. A collage of colours, lines, and odd shapes. This is not the only way to compose abstract art. In fact, using this style can take time and great effort. Abstract painting can be clean and crisp with variations of a real object. For example, if you took a picture of a forest but didn’t want to copy it exactly, then taking the colours and a few shapes from the photo you could put together an interpretive piece that is still cohesive and beautiful. UP NEXT... Impressionism. Read my next blog to learn about that style. My personal favourite!

That’s Too Good to Be True! Mar. 23, 2019

Have you ever seen a painting that looked “too good to be true?” You wonder how an artist could create a piece so realistic? I know I have!

That style of painting is called realism. Realism is realistic or life-like art. Mastering shading is the hardest technique. Making sure everything has it’s proper shadow areas and highlights, while maintaining the colours intended. I‘m slowly learning this skill. Picking up techniques and turning avant-garde pieces into pragmatic artistry. Resting on the Window Sill (painting seen below) is one of my first successful attempts at realism. It’s available for purchase so check it out by clicking the picture!

Painting Experiment- Aug. 7, 2019

This blog was super fun to make! I wanted to experiment a little and take a break from my pursuit of realism painting, but it turned out to be some great material for a blog! It started out as a painting intended to be entered in the Rotary Art Show this summer, but didn't come out as planned.

Well, I left it for a few months in hopes that someday I would be able to use the canvas again. And what do you know...the day came! I was watching YouTube videos on acrylic pouring and thought it would be an amazing experiment since I already had the extra canvas. I gathered all the supplies and went for it! It was definitely messy but worth the fun (see slide show below). Be sure to look out for more acrylic pouring by JCA.

Wonders of Watercolour- Jan. 2020

Watercolour paintings are now offered at Jazzmatazz Creative Arts! In this series,“Wonders of Watercolours,” I’ll be recreating my original acrylic paintings in watercolours, except this time it will be featured on my Instagram page!

Watercolours VS Acrylics

There are a few key differences between these two mediums.

1. Watercolours require water to be “activated”. However water dilutes acrylic paints and can result in ridding it of its texture and opacity.

2. Watercolours are thin in consistency. Heavy body acrylics (which I use) are think and can help in creating dimension.

3. Watercolours must be layered from light to dark. Whereas acrylics you work from dark to light.

With these differences in in mind I plan on conquering the medium with your support. Follow me on Instagram @jazzmatazzart to be apart of this journey.

Giverny France- Oct. 16, 2020

Where the world famous impressionist painter Monet resided. In his backyard held a beautiful oasis that the legend took much inspiration from for his artistry.

TWJ- Traveling The World With Jazzmatazz has been an amazing journey around the globe’s most beautiful and well-known artifacts though the gift of painting.

In my Instagram stories I have asked where you guys would like to travel. First it was Hobbiton, a mystical hidden Garden abode in New Zealand, after that we l traveled to a balcony overlooking the lovely city of Prague, and now it’s to Monet’s own backyard!

But this isn’t your typical garden. Combining both the French local and calming surroundings of Japan Monet created a most beautiful scene. And you can paint it with me!
